Nothing captures the soothing beauty of Devon like Langdon Court. Our gardens invite lazy days, our hotel celebrates the art of hospitality whilst on our doorstep there is an abundance to explore. The endless countryside, a spectacular coastline, ancient market towns filled with character and a vibrant culinary scene are all within easy reach.

A countryside escape

There is nothing quite like having a Country House Hotel to yourself, it’s about enjoying life’s luxuries without the crowds. Days are designed around you whilst Langdon’s relaxed welcoming vibe sets the perfect tone. You can chill out in the gardens, head to the nearby beach for a spot of rock pooling in our vintage Mini Moke or take a walk through some of the most stunning countryside paths you will ever experience. We can arrange horse riding, antiquing and so much more.

Inside we have a decedent film room, a cosseting library, a light-filled conservatory and spacious reception rooms (that is if you can tear yourself away from your bedroom). Food takes centre stage here at Langdon Court, with each meal not only demonstrating the creative flair of our chef but also the incredible provenance of the local ingredients, our locally sourced fresh seafood is definitely a highlight. Make sure to try out the chef’s table in our spectacular kitchen.

Our corner of devon

Whether staying for one night or much longer, we are a great base to discover South Devon. There are sandy beaches for surfing, paddle-boarding and windsurfing or perhaps you prefer to sail further along this coastline, known as the English Riviera or go deep-sea fishing nearby at Salcombe. On land, there is the famed Dartmoor National Park plus gorgeous gardens like Overbeck’s Garden at Sharpitor. You’ll also find houses with so much history including Agatha Christie’s holiday home Greenway and the landmark Burgh Island.

Salcombe is a must-visit, this iconic seaside town is picturesque and there is so much to discover. Like so much of Devon this is foodie heaven with its traditional seafood shacks (crab being top of the menu) endless flavours of ice cream at Salcombe Dairy and for the gin lover a truly exceptional distillery. You can take the old-fashioned ferry from Salcombe to Kingsbridge, this culinary haven is also one of the great antiquing market towns, along with Ashburton, in the area. If you don’t want to go far to experience a Devon taste highlight then The Mussel Inn is just minutes away in the South Hams village of Down Thomas. A traditional feel mixes with a gastro-pub menu that is a sensation.

For the golfer

There are wonderfully unique courses like the coastal Thurlestone Golf Club with its mix of links and cliff-top terrain affording breath-taking views of majestic rocky seascapes. St Mellion Golf Club is an impressive Cornish golf course which incorporates the incredible landscapes with Cornish Hospitality.

This incredible location is part of what makes Langdon Court such a special place to visit and when it comes to knowing where to visit, eat, shop or play then owners Donna and Robert have the best list.

Unparalleled dining

It is rare that a Country House Hotel’s dining is as spectacular as its setting, but Langdon Court has a pedigree, unlike others. First off is co-owner Robert Walton MBE, whose culinary renown is incomparable – President of the Restaurant Association, Founder of the Nth Degree Club and Chairman of World Young Chef Young Waiter – then add in the expertise of Jamie Rogers who is not only one of the most exciting chefs in the UK but has racked up an impressive raft of awards for his talent.

Their combined passion for world-class produce sustainably sourced from the surrounding countryside, fish and seafood from the local shores and small artisan businesses, will be reflected in the menus tailored to each individual house party or event. This personalisation continues with drinks and wines, as here there will be no set drinks lists but each party can have their own favourites sourced independently or with the Langdon team. Staying at Langdon Court is to enjoy a redefined concept in hospitality, one where the entire experience of the house and gardens takes centre stage.

Jamie Rogers, consultant chef

Directed by the culinary imagination of multi-award-winning chef Jamie Rogers, Langdon Court’s dining experience will be a celebration of innovation, sustainability and seasonality. Exceptional flavours and superb local produce from both land and sea. Jamie is known as one of the UK’s most dynamic, talented and creative chefs, his nearby restaurant Twenty-Seven (in Kingsbridge) is an established and much-in-demand destination for foodies across Devon and further afield.

If as part of your stay or event, you would like us to handle the catering then Jamie and his team will work with our House Manager to style your menus. An exclusive Country House Hotel with a culinary style that sets new standards is just one of our signatures.

A future legacy

Whether in the original coat of arms or within the grounds, the pear has been a symbol of Langdon Court for centuries. Owners Donna and Robert’s introduction of a ‘Legacy Orchard’ is a regenerative replanting project that pays tribute to the pear tree.

For every exclusive stay, wedding or bespoke event, a commemorative pear tree will be planted around the estate. There will be the endangered Plymouth Pear Tree along with a host of varieties chosen for their wildlife support and culinary inspiration. So when you come to Langdon Court you become part of its future.
