About the Owners
Donna Ida Thornton & Robert Walton MBE, owners
There are few hotels that have the pedigree that Langdon Court enjoys with its owners Donna Ida Thornton and Robert Walton MBE. This husband and wife duo are a veritable powerhouse; their passion and vision are transforming Langdon Court into a truly exceptional place.
Australian-born Donna Ida Thornton, known to many as the ‘Jean Queen’, is a highly successful fashion designer and passionate art collector. Her intrinsic flair for design is combined with an eye for the unusual and a gift to create beautiful spaces that celebrate style and comfort. At Langdon Court Donna has eschewed the traditional country estate look to have a more parred down aesthetic that blends texture, colour, vintage fabrics, one-off finds, bespoke pieces, and antiques in a way that perfectly enhances the beauty of the Grade II Manor House.
Ideally complementing Donna’s stylish expertise is her husband Robert Walton MBE, whose dedication to the world of hospitality led him to be awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to the industry. Robert continues to champion this sector both as the President of the Restaurant Association and Chairman of the World Young Chef Young Waiter competition, a forward-thinking initiative that encourages young talent in the industry. This love of great hospitality is being given a new and exciting expression at Langdon Court. Expect some personal touches, whether with his incredible network of contacts or his good food and healthy eating series ‘Dazzler Does’.
This combined talent is only part of their story. Inspired by a deep sense of place and fully engaged with the history of Langdon Court, Donna and Robert have undertaken a sensitive restoration that has drawn out its natural character. They are re-imagining the charm of this listed Jacobean manor in a way that authentically connects to its heritage and location. There is nothing formulaic in their approach, in styling this beautiful country house as an exclusive hotel tailored to providing a homely luxury and a rarely found hospitality, they are bringing back the glory days of this remarkable estate.
