Individual not formulaic

Inside Langdon Court the décor is a stylish blend of classic design, paired down elegance, characterful details and a laidback luxury where comfort is top of mind. Colour schemes are subtle, vintage fabrics and natural textiles add warmth and tone, while antiques and one-off finds are enhanced by contemporary artistic flair and a meticulous craftsmanship that abounds throughout.

This is a living, lived-in space that moves from day to night effortlessly. Relax by day in the cosy library or be entranced by its jewel-like vibe at night, breakfast in the Morning Room filled with light or cocktails by the marble fireplace in the formal Drawing Room before dinner in a grand setting. These carefully and creatively imagined interiors seamlessly blend with the gorgeous landscaped gardens and the magnificent views, creating the most charming of backdrops for Exclusive House Hotel parties, celebrations and special events.

Countryside chic

There is no better place to experience the cosseting ambience of Langdon Court than in the 14 individually designed rooms and suites. Each is styled with a different character in mind, so no two are decorated alike. Set over the first and second floors, these bedrooms are masterpieces of relaxed comfort and understated luxury.

The expansive principal rooms are filled with period features and some spectacular views; there are also a few smaller but perfectly-formed rooms that are distinguished by charming details. Soft, neutral paint colourways from Edward Bulmer contrast with decorative Colefax & Fowler and Pierre Frey fabrics while the striking tiling in the bathrooms adds interest. Sink-in chairs and sofas sit alongside handpicked English antiques and European pieces, whilst original artworks and unexpected discoveries delight the eye. Thoughtfully decorated, each room also features just the right amount of modern-day needs.

Glorious gardens

Nowhere captures the soothing beauty of Devon like the 10 acres of gardens and grounds that encase Langdon Court. Worthy of a heritage listing, the English Renaissance gardens are being lovingly restored and replanted. Langdon Court’s centrepiece walled garden is transformed with hundreds of David Austin roses, whose fragrance and colour evoke a timeless era. Whilst the Victorian greenhouse and kitchen gardens are being brought back to their original life.

A newly-planted hillside of lavender sweeps down to an expansive lily-filled pond, complete with ‘Duckingham Palace’ for the resident ducks, whilst the established woodland adds to the sense of privacy. Throughout the grounds are wonderful tucked-away areas to explore and enjoy. This mix of formal and informal gardens are inspiring homage to the art of quintessential English garden design.

Unparalleled dining

It is rare that a Country House Hotel’s dining is as spectacular as its setting, but Langdon Court has a pedigree unlike many others. First off is co-owner Robert Walton MBE, whose culinary renown is incomparable – President of the Restaurant Association, Founder of the Nth Degree Club and Chairman of World Young Chef Young Waiter – then add in the expertise of Jamie Rogers who is not only one of the most exciting chefs in the UK but has racked up an impressive raft of awards for his talent.

Their combined passion for world-class produce, sustainably sourced from the surrounding countryside, fish and seafood from the local shores and small artisan businesses, will be reflected in the menus tailored to each individual house party or event. This personalisation continues with drinks and wines, as here there will be no set drinks lists but each party can have their own favourites sourced independently or with the Langdon Court team. Staying at Langdon Court is to enjoy a redefined concept in hospitality, one where the entire experience of the house and gardens takes centre stage.

A future legacy

Whether in the original coat of arms or within the grounds, the pear has been a symbol of Langdon Court for centuries. Owners Donna and Robert’s introduction of a ‘Legacy Orchard’ is a regenerative replanting project that pays tribute to the pear tree.

For every exclusive stay, wedding or bespoke event, a commemorative pear tree will be planted around the estate. There will be the endangered Plymouth Pear Tree along with a host of varieties chosen for their wildlife support and culinary inspiration. So when you come to Langdon Court you become part of its future.
